Reviewing The Scarab 215: Blast Off on a Jet Boat

The Scarab 215 boat

If you’re over the age of 30, there’s a pretty good chance you remember Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs speeding around Miami, FL, in a high-performance Scarab 38 KV during episodes of the hit television show Miami Vice. Back in the day, the Scarab name was synonymous with speed, style, and luxurious performance. Today, however, the Scarab line has been re-imagined into a line of high-power, high-performance jet boats.

Chris-Craft Calypso 30

While the Chris-Craft 42 Commander has been stealing most of the headlines about this boat-builder lately, also new for 2017 is the Calypso 30. Four-Stroke Outboard Oil Check Tutorial

four-stroke outboard

Checking the oil level in a four-stroke outboard is about as basic as maintenance gets, and should be part of the “pre-flight” routine of every outboard owner. But I’m guessing many outboard owners go an entire season without lifting the cowl, because our boats–like our road vehicles–are so reliable and maintenance-free these days that we don’t give much thought to oil and filters. My truck has 200,000 miles on the clock and still goes 7,500 more between oil changes without using a drop of lube. So I don’t check it often.

2017 Sea Ray Sundancer 350 Coupe Review

Sea Ray Sundancer 350 Coupe Boat

There’s a huge change in the Sea Ray Sundancer line when you get to the Sundancer 40 and larger models. These boats have fully enclosed helm-decks. Smaller Sundancers in the line have a hard-top supported by an arch, which leaves the helm-deck open to sunshine and sea breezes. Each design has its merits; in the case of the larger boats you can cruise comfortably in all weather with complete climate control, and on the smaller boats you get a full dose of the great outdoors.

Seawind 1190 Sport

It is fair to say that a design’s success can be judged by a number of different factors, including its longevity and imitations—or as is the case with the Seawind 1160 catamaran, a new iteration. The Seawind 1190 Sport looks very much like its older sister; it’s just a little big longer and has fresh tricks up its sleeve.
